Backups....-bkp_tape.jpg  Backups. The one single word that can strike terror into mere mortals, well those mortals that use computers anyway! Do you backup? Do you backup regularly? How do you decide what to backup? Where do you back up to? What software should you use? Have you actually ever had to restore from a backup?

The above are just some of the many questions the subject of backups can evoke, I’m sure there are also a lot more questions that I haven't even thought of!

Netbooks seem to have hit a plateau of late with many offering very similar specifications for very similar prices.

It seems that £300 will get you a 160gb hard drive, an Intel atom processor, a webcam and possibly a sim slot.

So what is a netbook?

There are many ways to define what a netbook is but the simplest is to look at how the word is formed, interNET noteBOOK.

For me this is a bit vague as it could cover a 17" laptop with an ethernet connection. I think portabilty is key for a netbook and i think this is where they come into their own and why they have become so popular in such a short space of time.

Asus to launch ARM (Snapdragon) 'SmartBooks' in 2010-it_photo_139120_50.jpg  Asus will launch an ARM-powered smartbook in the first quarter of 2010, as it looks to replicate its Eee PC success.

The company showed off a prototype of the laptop at Computex back in June, running on Qualcomm's Snapdragon platform - which licenses ARM's processor design - and Android.

Arm going head-to-head with Intel?-it_photo_136507_50.jpg  British chip designer ARM is launching an outright attack on Intel with the launch of a 2GHz processor aimed at everything from netbooks to servers.

ARM claims the 40nm Cortex A9 MPCore processor represents a shift in strategy for the company, which has until now concentrated on low-power processors for mobile devices.

The Archos 9pctablet offers a 9in screen that naturally takes advantage of the multi-touch facilities offered in Microsoft's new operating system.
